Webinar on the Japanification in Europe

In our webinar we discuss the japanification of the world with Professor Gunther Schnabl, how Europe and Switzerland might be different from the land of the rising sun and what societal consequences one is to expect from increasing stagnation after all.

In a webinar last week we have discussed the japanification of the world with Professor Gunther Schnabl, how Europe and Switzerland might be different than the land of the rising sun and what societal consequences one has to expect from increasing stagnation after all.

Japanification seems to be the latest buzzword within financial circles. As we have been studying monetary economics and history intensively, we have had this theme on our radar for quite a while. We expect the japanification of the Western world to continue, which is why we have taken on the task to shed some more light on the topic. From our exclusive webinar with Professor Gunther Schnabl from University of Leipzig we would like to share the main take-aways:

  • Japan seems to be 15 years ahead of Europe when it comes to monetary interventionism.
  • There are similarities between Europe and Japan but also crucial differences. It is quite likely that the European population will not accept the fate of ongoing japanification manifesting itself in productivity losses, lower real wages and greater redistribution of social benefits.
  • The consequences of Japanification are mainly borne by younger people. Compared to previous generations their entry salaries have come down comparatively.
  • For the declining middle-class the only antidote is to hold assets that lets them benefit from the continuous "cheap money" policies by central banks.
